It took a second half goal from Adam Hurley to deny Carrick United all three points from their Waterford Schoolboy U11A league with Bohemians at Ben Wadding Park on Saturday morning last.
That goal came with the first real attack of the game after just nine minutes. Steven Curry did well out on the left and after cutting infield he played the perfect pass for Butler and the striker kept his composure to fire past Bohemians keeper Lee Power from 14 yards.
It took a decent save from keeper Power to keep the visitors at bay less than two minutes later when Sean Martin played the ball into the path of James Whelan; however his first-time shot from 25 yards was tipped around the post at the expense of a fruitless corner kick.
Curry and Martin had shots from distance that failed to trouble Lee Power but it was the latter that really went close to doubling his side’s advantage on 27 minutes when he tried his luck from distance; however the ball whistled inches wide of the target.
The sound of the half-time whistle came as a welcome relief for the home side as they rarely threatened the Carrick goal during the course of the first period, but it was still the visitors that went in search of the second goal from the start of the second.
Power produced a fantastic save to keep out Carrick four minutes after the re-start when Sean Martin got on the end of a right-wing cross from Graham Holoway but the cracking right-footed strike from the talented midfielder was brilliantly turned around the posts by the Bohs keeper.
