Brian Murphy

Brian Murphy

Waterford-born Brian Murphy, the goalkeeper who broke all sorts of records last season as Bohemians won the League and Cup double, was voted domestic Player of the Year at the Eircom FAI Soccer Awards last Sunday night at Citywest Hotel in Dublin.

Brian, unfortunately, was not present to accept the award as he was in Malaga with his club on a pre-season trip. On Saturday last Bohs played Moscow Lokomotiv in Spain. The Gypsies’ manager Pat Fenlon presented the award to Brian in a pre-recorded piece for RTE. Brian was nominated along with his colleague Owen Heary and the former St Patricks Athletic player, Keith Fahy, who is now with Birmingham City.

This award caps off a wonderful weekend for former Waterford Bohemians players, as Eddie Nolan was called up for the Irish squad. Brian, will I believe, be called up to the senior squad also, sooner rather than later.
