The good times may be on the way back to Dungarvan football as they overcame a brave challenge from Eastern champions Rathgormack to claim the County Under-21 Football title.

Dungarvan proved too slick and too pacy for Rathgormack and the result was never really in doubt after Kenny Moore scored a terrific goal in the 18th minute.

Dungarvan showed their intentions in the very first minute of the game when the excellent, Gavin Crotty raced through to fire over the opening point.

Rathgormack were soon back on level terms when their two best forwards, Gavin Nugent and Paul Drohan combined for Drohan to send over an equaliser.

One of the star performers for Dungarvan on the day was full-forward Trevor Crotty whose pace and ability to lay the ball off to better placed colleagues posed problems for the Rathgormack defence all evening.

In the 4th minute, Crotty set up Karl Duggan for the lead point and three minutes later, Crotty scored himself as Dungarvan started to assert their authority on the scoreboard. A minute later Crotty was fouled by Rathgormack full-back, Johnny Kavanagh and Colm Curran scored the resultant free.

Rathgormack did stem the blue tide somewhat when Peter Foran scored with an excellent left-footed effort but then Dungarvan and particularly Kenny Moore took over.

Gavin Crotty scored with a well-struck 45 before Kenny Moore kicked an excellent point with his left foot from the left-hand side. Thirty seconds later centre-forward Liam Ryan ran straight through the heart of the Rathgormack defence before off-loading to Moore who rattled the net with his finish.
