WIT 2-17; Tipperary 1-19
Declan Ryan’s first taste of management with All-Ireland champions Tipperary ended in defeat last Sunday when his side went down to WIT in Clonmel by just a single point.
And it was largely down to the efforts of a fellow Premier man that Tipp were toppled.
Yet in the opening stages, it looked as if the match was going to be one-sided, with Tipperary racing into a 1-4 to 0-0 lead, their goal coming from John O’Neill.
Declan Ryan fielded a team featuring just one of the team that won the All-Ireland title last year, but it was the efforts of the Tipp man in WIT colours that particularly caught the eye.
Timmy Hammersley of Clonoulty-Rossmore Club has been outstanding for WIT in recent years and he maintained that form on Sunday last, hitting 1-10; 1-3 of it from play.
