The bitterly cold weather experienced before Christmas faded and a mild winter’s day ensured fine racing in Tramore on New Year’s Eve.
You still had to wrap up however and have a good overcoat on to keep warm.
A reasonably large crowd turned up on the Friday 31st December at the Tramore race track.
As there was an early close to the day, racing started early at 12.35.
There was a seven race card so people trickled along for the first hour and a half, as many had travelled a distance for the event.
An outsider took the first race with Three Monkeys winning this maiden hurdle race at a generous price of 20-1, Coolharbour Breeze trained by M. Doran was second with odds of 7-1, and Fairly Definite was third at similar odds, not a great start for the punters, you could say. The favourite, Asiya came in 5th at 11/8.
