This year Christ Church Coffee Concerts have provided some great music and some refreshing new talent. Grace Power (soprano) filled me with admiration as she opened her concert with two big sing items or Bel Canto as they used to be confusingly called. She showed her ambition and ability with a strong Bellini, per Pieta and a dramatic Verdi song La Seduzione.
Accompanied on piano by Catherine Dillon, power gave us an assured Pastorale, as tantalising as a kiss with a trill in her voice and her artistry on Dvorak’s Songs My Mother Taught Me was a fragment of memory.
