As we go to press, election day has been called and perhaps one of the most unpopular governments ever is on the way out. This should be a time of relief for many as we compare ourselves to the Egyptians. At least we have a choice, so do not waste the vote. It cannot be an auction election. Votes cannot be bought this time. Solving the financial crisis is the big issue and getting the confidence back in the economy. These should be the criteria for the electorate.
Here, we should be supporting ourselves in the South East whether it be the university plan, the hospital services that are threatened and developing tourism in the year of the Tall Ships. There are things to be optimistic about but the jobless level is very worrying.
