Things are looking up, and indeed literally shaping up, down by the Waterside. This column among other voices, have been vocal in calling for its general upgrading. And what a magnificent job has been accomplished there over the past six months which along with other contiguous developments will help realise the potential of this area. Central to this is a great site in a great location awaiting development, is the old gas works on the Waterside (dating back to 1828). Some years ago, the polluted soil there had to be removed post gas works and then the remaining ground left to further ventilate itself before the site would be suitable for re-development. The streetscape here is very attractive and the bridges over the Pill represent(ed) fine pieces of ironwork and were nearly beyond the point of rescue. I am glad to see that they have been recently replaced and I assume will be tenderly restored.
