Abbeyside and Waterford Crystal have been on top form all season in Division 1B and it came as no surprise that they went into the last league game of the season level on points. Both had amassed a total of 42 points. Each club won 14 games and lost 3. An interesting fact was that neither had drawn a game during the course of the campaign. Crystal had scored 50 goals, while Abbeyside had found the net 62 times. Crystal had a watertight defence, conceding only 7 goals compared to Abbeyside’s 13.
Following this vital match it was the extra firepower of Abbeyside which proved to be the key factor, and as a result the Westerners left the Crystal Complex as champions. They will now play in Division 1A next season, and it would appear that the good times are returning to Stucco Lane.
