Gardai in Dunmore East say they are following a definite line of enquiry in relation to a vandalism attack on the Harbour Office last week.

A number of people are understood to have been arrested in connection with the incident, in which paint was daubed on both the building’s walls and a staff vehicle. A file is currently being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Minister of State with Special Responsibility for Fisheries Tony Killeen, TD, has condemned the overnight attack. “It was unacceptable that State property should be attacked in this way, particularly when the offices were occupied at the time by Sea Fishery Protection Officers who are public servants performing their statutory duties”. The Minister said that he understood that the incident was the subject of a Garda investigation, adding that he hoped the perpetrators would be apprehended and brought to justice.
