Ferrybank 3; Tramore 0

Premier League champions Tramore got their defence of their title off to a terrible start on Sunday when they crashed to newly-promoted Ferrybank at the Village Grounds.

Brian Mallon was the star player for last season’s Division 1A champions as he scored an opening day hat-trick, as did Gerry Connors (Bohs) and Stephen Dalton (St Saviour’s).

Mallon took advantage of a mistake by Leigh Quilty to open the scoring just before the half-time whistle. He scored a wonderful second goal midway through the second period with a volley after turning quickly and leaving two Tramore defenders for dead.

Mallon completed his hat-trick when he controlled the ball on his chest before lobbing the ball into the net with real class.

Ferrybank will fancy their chance of getting another three points on Friday night when they play Waterford Crystal.
