Harty Cup holders Ard Scoil Rís had a comfortable 3-22 to 0-8 win over Waterford Colleges in Tipperary Town.
The Limerick college side were always in control from early on and raced into a 1-7 to 0-1 lead very early in the game.
A goal by John Fitzgibbon and four points from Mark Carmody helped them to a 1-11 to 0-4 half-time lead.
The pair continued to pour trouble on the Coláiste na nDeise defence in the second half and added further goals.
Shane Dowling also had a fine game for the Limerick side finishing with 10-points while Cathal Curran was Coláiste na nDeise’s top scorer with four points.
St Flannan’s did not have matters all their own way in their game against Blackwater College from Lismore at Bansha.
Aided by the wind the Ennis College led 1-9 to 0-8 at half time, a lead which never looked good enough as the Lismore side battled back to draw level midway through the second half.
The Ennis side hit back with a goal from a Stephen O’Halloran penalty to edge them back in front again.
But the Lismore college hit back through Pádraig Prendergast and from here on it both sides went hell for leather in a bid to register an early win in this year’s championship.
However it was the Ennis side that finished the stronger of the two sides and ran out winners with four points to spare.
