Fears have been expressed by City Councillor Davy Daniels that failure to get an early response from Cabinet on applications for GI (Gateway Innovation) funding will hold up plans for a pedestrian bridge across the Suir and a heritage project for the Christ Church area.

He raised the issue at last week’s City Council meeting, wondering if the Cabinet would be making a decision before the Dail’s summer recess. If that was not anticipated, the Council should be pushing for it, he said.

City Manager Mr. Michael Walsh said there was no indication as to when a decision would be forthcoming, but he assured Cllr. Daniels that development on the North Quays would not be delayed by the timing of the bridge project.
