The fight to save Tramore’s motor tax payment facility at the local Civic Offices will be taken by the Town Council to the incoming Minister for the Environment if necessary.
The Council, at the behest of Independent member Pat Finnerty, pledged at its February meeting on Tuesday night to include that option as an element of its ongoing battle to retain the service.
By way of a notice of motion, Cllr Finnerty called on the County Council Executive to reverse its decision to transfer the service to Dungarvan from February 18, a move it claims has been forced on it by staff reductions.
Accusing the Executive of Vichy style management, he said they were denying the people of Tramore their democratic rights. Such conduct had brought millions of people onto the streets of Cairo that very day, he added by way of somewhat exaggerated comparison.
