A Minister has all but poured cold water on Waterford City’s chances of getting a new Fire Station in the foreseeable future – also meaning the logjam within the local courts system is set to get even worse.

Asked by Deputy Brian O’Shea what the position was in the Dail this week, Junior Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government Michael Finneran said “the provision of funding by my Department in respect of a proposal to construct a purpose-built headquarter fire station at Kilbarry Road… will be considered under future capital programmes within the constraints of available resources, and will have regard to the fire authority’s priorities, the spread of existing facilities and the totality of requests from other fire authorities for available funding.”

In March local Fianna Fail TD Brendan Kenneally announced that the Department had “made funding available to facilitate the drawing up of the final plans which will bring the new station a step closer to completion.”
