It looks like the euro crisis is deepening as further countries like Italy and Spain get drawn into the currency and debt problems. Ireland seems to be reducing its deficit and got the approval of the IMF last week, yet the problems in other countries mean that reductions in interest rates are further away than expected. The fact that Irish bond yields went over 14 per cent for payment in 2020 suggests that the country’s situation is still perilous.
