The Lansdowne Road Stadium project remains on target to open in 2010, with the last portion of the Government’s €191m contribution towards the cost due by the end of this year.

At €12-36,000 a pop the ‘dear seats’ were always going to be a harder sell than chief executive John Delaney made out. It was only Cyprus admittedly, but a crowd of 60,000 for last week’s World Cup qualifier goes to show that it’s just as well Bertie’s 80,000-seater stadium was knocked on the head. At least the PDs have got something right in the past ten years.
