Workers Party Councillor Councillor Davy Walsh has inquired to Waterford Gardaí about jaunting cars pulled by horses, often across both lanes on the city’s Outer Ring Road.
Such races have become increasingly regular during weeknights after nightfall, with some spectators even sitting on the median separating both sides of the Ring Road.
“If any such incidents are interfering with traffic, those responsible are subject to Sections 9 and 49 (of the Road Traffic Act) if the event of potential endangerment,” Supt Delaney told Cllr Walsh.
“A number of these have come before the courts and we have identified a number of high-risk areas in the city which we are regularly monitoring.”
