On Sunday last in Moyglass, Co Tipperary at the Munster Cross Country Championship fixture athletes from Waterford clubs did very well in both the Masters and juvenile B events.
In the juvenile section there were wins for two Waterford AC athletes Hugo Blair, u11 and Lynsey Mc Guire, u9 and another Waterford AC athlete Jake Bagge was 2nd, u9, and two An Ghaeltacht athletes also had second placings: Jack Keane, u11 and Ian Curran, u17.
Bronze medals went to Tom Devine, KCK, u15; Aidan McKenna, u11, and Tholm Reddy, u13, both West Waterford; Alan Slattery, Waterford, was fourth u17, as was Ross Brown, KCK, u15.
Sean Ronyane, West Waterford, was fifth, u11 and Michael Behan, KCK was 6th, u15. In the inter-club team section West Waterford won the boys u11 and were third in the girls and boys u9, and Girls u 11. KCK won the boys u15 and Waterford AC were second in the u11 boys. In the Inter-County team section Waterford won the boys u11 and were third in the girls and boys u9, boys u15 and girls u11.
Corina Walsh had a fine win for West Waterford in the Ladies o35, Diane Behan Waterford was second over 40 and third placings went to Harry O’Brien o45 and Bernie Prendergast o 50 both West Waterford. Waterford won the ladies o 35 Inter County team award and were third in the Men’s o35 and women’s o45. In the club section Waterford A.C. were second o 40 in the ladies and West Waterford 2nd in the ladies o 45.
No joy for David
At the NCAA National Collegiate Cross Country Championships in Indiana last week David McCarthy, West Waterford, finished well down the field in 84th place in a time of 30 minutes 47 seconds.
The race was won by Samuel Chelenga from Liberty in 28.41. David was the third scoring member of the Providence College team. In the team section Providence were way down the field also, finishing 20th of the 31 competing colleges.

On Saturday last across channel in the South Thames Cross Country Championships over 8km, Alex Flynn from Ferrybank had a good run to finish 21st overall and he was the second junior home.
