De La Salle 0-15; Portlaw 1-12
De La Salle and Portlaw must meet again to decide who meets John Mitchels in the Eastern Intermediate Football final after playing out an exciting draw in Kill last Saturday.
It was a point five minutes from the end of extra time by former Waterford player, Lee Hayes which forced the draw and to be honest, a draw was probably the fairest outcome.
De La Salle started very brightly and with midfield duo Mitchell Casey and David Greene on top they began to create scoring opportunities.
They opened the scoring after Conan Watt set up David Greene and they doubled their advantage a couple of minutes later when Lee Hayes scored the first of his eight points.
Just as it looked as if Portlaw were being over-run all over the field they were thrown a lifeline on 13 minutes.
De La Salle failed to cope with a long ball into Portlaw’s inside line and when the ball broke, Paul Power was the first to react, slamming the ball into the net.
From the very next attack Lee Hayes equalised for De La Salle before a Michael Donnelly free put Portlaw back in front.
De La Salle were soon back on level terms when David Greene scored and they took the lead when Mitchell Casey scored from a firmly-struck 45.
By now it was all one-way traffic as De La Salle swept forward in droves. Lee Hayes popped over two frees and Wexford manager Jason Ryan knocked over a point from play to put the Gracedieu club further ahead.
