After what was a fine standard bearer for First Division football, Blues boss Stephen Henderson said: “UCD had pace all over the park and they made us run all evening and there is no doubt that we could have done a little bit better at certain times during the course of the game.

“We gave ourselves a lot of work out there and our work-rate had to be top class all through. Graham Cummins was missed but nevertheless all of the players out there did what we asked them to do and we are happy enough with the point which keeps us right up there, especially as we have another huge game against Sporting Fingal next Friday.

“Our defence were top class and Michael Devine was the master of his penalty area once again. The main worry is the injuries picked up by Paul McCarthy and Kevin Waters and I have no idea if those guys will be fit to play against Shamrock Rovers in the EA Sports Cup on Tuesday. Hopefully however they will be okay for the Fingal game because it is very tight at the top of the table.

“Of course we would have liked to win here but all things concerned we will take the point and move on,” said a very wet Waterford manager as the rain fell heavily on a mid-May night. Is this really ‘summer soccer’?
