Eddie Eamon Stapleton, who passed away recently, had a chequered career in banking, acting, theatre, poetry and a lifelong love of music and songwriting. Born in Griffith Place in 1947, his passing took many by surprise and I was shocked to learn of his untimely death.
Eamon was a classroom friend from those heady days at Cnoc Síon Secondary, where despite the rigid structures of those times, people had dreams and creative ambitions. He wanted to act, write songs and be a musician and Eamon fitted all of that with a fine Leaving Cert and a Fine Arts Honours from University College Dublin.
He worked with Ulster Bank on O’Connell Street, Dublin and studied Acting/Stage Management at the Brendan Smith Academy. He joined the Young Abbey School of Acting and achieved fame with the Sheridan brothers with The Liberty Suit and other touring plays.
