For the first time in 30 years, international chess returns to Waterford. On Saturday, April 26th, at The Majestic Hotel, Tramore, the Russian Grand-Master, Alec Baburin, and the International-Master, Mark Quinn, will play a simultaneous display against forty local exponents of the game. Registration will be at 5pm and the forty challengers will be selected on a first-come basis. Incidentally, Mark Quinn is a great-grandson of the famed Waterford Olympian, Peter O’Connor.

The simultaneous game will be a taster for what is to come on June 6, 7 and 8th. when hundreds of chess players from all over Ireland and Europe will travel to Tramore for a National and International Chess Tournament that will be spread over The Majestic and The Grand Hotels. Both events are being staged under the auspices of the Waterford Chess Club.
