On Friday last in Guadix Southern Spain, Kate Veale of West Waterford AC continued her brilliant season at the Grand Primo De Marcha Festival of Race Walking.
Competing in the Junior 1500m in a temperature of 34 degrees the Dungarvan girl literally “walked away” with the gold medal in a time of 14 minutes and seven seconds. In second place was Sandra Marcos in 16.03 and Laura Garcia was third in 16.26, both from Spain.
Kate is Ireland’s finest young race walker and her technique is a joy to watch. So far her career has been one of success after success in each age group. Let’s hope it can continue into the senior grade.
