Last year’s beaten finalists Waterford United made it seven consecutive victories from seven games when they defeated the Kerry League in Mounthawk Park in Tralee on Monday night to book a home second-round game against Tralee Dynamos in the EA Sports Cup.
The Blues went ahead on 25 minutes when James O’Sullivan picked out David Grincell with a long pass and Grincell slotted the ball past the advancing goalkeeper.
Waterford went further in front on 37 minutes. John Kearney took a free kick which sent Liam Kearney away down the left. His inch-perfect cross was met by Willie John Kiely who finished well. Stephen Henderson’s men dominated the second half without adding to their tally. The game against Tralee Dynamos will be played at the RSC on May 11th or 12th.
