Local crew assist in major rescue mission

The Waterford-based Irish Coast Guard’s helicopter was called out last weekend to take part in a major air and sea search for five Russian seamen missing in the Irish Sea.
The 81m cargo ship ‘MV Swanland’ sank in gale force winds and heavy swells some 30km south of Holyhead, Wales on Sunday. The ship is believed to have sunk in about 15 minutes.

Calls to Waterford SVP increase by 55 per cent

Calls to Waterford’s St Vincent de Paul office have risen by almost 55 per cent in the last year, as cuts in services, increased fuel costs and charges take their toll on the city’s most vulnerable.

People who were distressed and worried when persons unknown vandalised the famous Fairy Tree on the Comeragh Mountain Drive earlier this year are extremely concerned that the replacement tree has now also been damaged.
