The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, was still in disbelief when she arrived at National Lotto offices in Dublin last week to collected her prize of €500,000.
She told officials that the she had put the €3 Quick Pick ticket, bought in Dunphy’s Castle Shop on the Cork Road on the day of the draw, into her handbag and then forgot about it.
It was three days later before she found the ticket at the bottom of her handbag and checked the numbers.
“When I checked the ticket I realised I’d won something, but I didn’t know what! I had all the family checking the numbers. Then I called the Lottery yesterday and they said I’d won half a million – I just can’t believe it!”, the woman continued.
The lucky lady had a glass of champagne to celebrate the news and was still doubting her luck as she received the cheque. She put it into her handbag, saying “I’ll not forget this in there!”
