Michael Ryan has succeeded Davy Fitzgerald as manager of the Waterford senior hurlers, it was announced on Monday evening in Dungarvan.
Ryan was ratified as Waterford’s first native boss since Tony Mansfield to fill the position for the next two seasons.
It’s the first that Michael Ryan has managed an inter-county team in hurling. But he’s no stranger to the job having filled the role of selector under Justin McCarthy when Waterford won the League and Munster Finals in 2007.
He was also Manager of the Waterford Ladies Football team for over two decades guiding the team to five All-Ireland finals in the 1990s.
The Ballymacarbry man who stood for the position 12 months ago, having guided De La Salle to County and Provincial titles in 2010.
He also coached the Dublin Ladies Football team in recent years, and was involved last year when they won the All-Ireland Final. He has also managed in Tipperary in recent years.
