UFO-mania appears to have struck Waterford city and the region in recent days, if the evidence provided to a local radio programme offers any indication.
Three orange lights were seen flying over Tesco Ardkeen last week, aligning themselves into a triangular shape before one broke off and vanished.
A single mysterious flying object was also seen late last week by a motorist crossing Rice Bridge, slinging itself back and forth in an unusual manner.
Callers and texters from the city, as well as neighbouring Wexford, Tipperary and Kilkenny, contacted Beat 102-103’s ‘More Music Breakfast’ on Saturday morning last about the series of sightings.
“I was up with my newborn at 6am on Saturday morning and I looked out my kitchen window and saw 13 different lights across the sky,” according to Mark, a texter from Wexford. “I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Similar sightings were also claimed by listeners in Callan, County Kilkenny and Clogheen, County Tipperary.
Paul, a Waterford-based listener, saw three bright lights in the sky over Ardkeen on Wednesday week last. “They were moving pretty close to each other before they formed themselves into a triangle – then one of them broke out of the sequence and flew off.”
On Sunday evening last at approximately 8pm, two orange lights were seen in the sky over Kilkenny city.
“I saw two orange lights travelling side by side for few minutes, eventually they stopped and one disappeared and the other stayed in the sky for few minutes,” posted an anonymous contributor to ‘The Vike Factor’ – an online UFO blog.
“What could it be? Thought it was helicopter or plane put down windows got out of car and nothing could be heard. Freaky.”
During July, mysterious orange lights were also spotted in the Dunmore East and Kilkenny city areas, while a bright white, bell-shaped light was identified by two eyewitnesses in Clonmel.
Dear Sirs
I think your writers need to check your sources, bell shaped orange lights, around Dunmore during the summer slowly moving and then disappearing. The most likely answer is chinese lanterns. We set them off in Donegal, 2 days later the same thing was reported in the local paper.
Kind regards
Ev
Would be a nice boost to tourism if we had a confirmed landing.
their here
We saw the same thing in wexford on a number of occasions in August and many more people saqw it too,
I aslo seen one of these orange flying objexts at around 7:30pm in dungarvan, by davitts quay!!
I was asking around,,, and one of my friends told me that he was playing about,,, and used his radio controlled helicopter,,, and a light under it,,, AS he also saw some lights !!!
it makes you wonder IF people are playing about JUST to get in the paper
Hello all. My source was the public reaction derived from the radio programme which I present on Beat each Saturday morning. I’ve also written on this before and referenced lanterns having discussed the issue with Astronomy Ireland. Given that these lights were spotted in so many different areas around the region in recent months, that itself is at least newsworthy by my estimation.
i saw them at the blue grass festival, and in the city and tramore on 3 seperate incidents, but moments before the town siting I saw a ring of lights (about 20) spinning anti clockwise and an inner ring of lights spinning clockwise and it was quite low. I remember thinking something ain’t quite right about this, and then it seemed to fade away before me, did anybody see this too?
Hi, I think it may be the chinese lanterns. We let some off recently and they do look like what people are explaining. However as for creating a triangular shape and one flying off, I have never seen Chinese lanterns do that. They do disappear though when they burn out.
