What can RTE1 be thinking of broadcasting a dispute between Cork footballers and hurlers and their County Board in the Scannal! series. Where or what was the scandal? Good to see Waterford man Liam Cahill, An Fear Rua, get in his eurosworth when he suggested that Cork players didn’t want a manager who had previously managed a Waterford hurling team or that the County Board treated it like an industrial action and brought in an industrial mediator to offer a business solution to a sporting welfare matter. To hear commentators saying it was a rising, a revolution was a bit much. Whatever it was it wasn’t a scandal and no doubt the shameful treatment of Seán Óg O’Hailpín will give rise to some form of dispute early next year. Unpaid players deserve better treatment than a Wayne Rooney who only has to hint at leaving and the club throw huge sums of money at him.
