Hopes are high that Tramore will be granted a prestige stage finish in this year’s An Post Rás – Ireland’s biggest bike race – when the 2011 route is announced on Tuesday.

Local councillor Pat Finnerry and former cyclist Diarmuid Kelly from Sweetbriar, Tramore, are among those who have been working behind the scenes to secure the end-of-stage on Friday, May 27.

This would see the cavalcade arrive from Blarney, Co Cork and stay in Tramore overnight before leaving for Dublin the next morning.
Confident their application will be successful, Cllr Finnerty says it would be a massive boon for the town at the start of the tourist season, with around a thousand bed nights being booked for riders and their entourage.
