As opera in Ireland suffers a crisis of funding and government indecision, it was good to still have the West Cork Burren Opera in a tent in a field at Burren House between Kilbrittain and Timoleague over looking Courtmacsherry Bay. This year Burren extended their offering to two evenings but seemed to split their audience rather than double it. The new Lismore Musical Festival with opera in the stables area of Lismore Castle is a success story and Wexford Festival Opera now celebrating its 60th season has had a financial wobble or three.
