While it is an achievement that Waterford New Music Week has reached its tenth year, it is balanced too precariously as a minority arts interest and possibly cannot find the cash to afford signage or event direction, so it is difficult for the public to attend some items, especially those held internally at WIT. Then, when you did find them, an advertised Masterclass in Voice with Iarla O Lionaird, turned out to be a class talk on his origins in sean nos singing. Informative, but not what was advertised.
Throughout a thin slate of events, starting on Tuesday, with only one Saturday event, there was a reasonable mix of jazz, student multi-media, an outreach programme that reached inside to a studio at WIT, a film, some jazz, a concert of Eric Sweeney’s work, a post-graduate concert and Madrigallery.
