There was much disappointment last weekend when it was announced that the Cliffs of Moher had failed to reach the provisional final seven of the ‘New Seven Wonders of Nature’ list.
While such a competition could be viewed sceptically, local TDs and Councillors were adamant that such designation would have been enormously beneficial for the county. Some even predicted that visitor numbers could increase by 35 per cent.
The final confirmation of the seven chosen attractions will be made early next year with locations such as Cape Town’s Table Mountain and the Amazon Rainforest among the contenders.
