Shelbourne 2;   Waterford United 1

Despite taking the lead after 16 minutes of play, Waterford United were no match for the runaway leaders Shelbourne in Tolka Park on Friday night last. The home side held all the aces during the contest and fully deserved their victory. The defeat leaves Waterford well behind the top three and promotion now looks like a remote possibility. Kevin Burns, the Blues goalkeeper produced a number of fine saves during the 90 minutes and he came to the rescue of Waterford as early as the 9th minute. Dean Delaney, the Shelbourne custodian kicked the ball long down the field to Philly Hughes and it looked as if the home striker would score but Burns raced from his line to clear the danger. One minute later Colm James was just over with a snap shot from 20 yards.
