Southend United remain rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table with just four points, six behind Ferrybank following their 2-0 defeat to Hibernians in Mitchell Kennedy Park on Sunday morning.
Sean Ryan (75 minutes) and a David McGrath penalty four minutes from full-time gave the home side all three points and they have moved on to an overall total of 14, the same amount as Villa.
The Southend Under-17 team however recorded a fantastic home win on Sunday afternoon when they defeated Kilreen Celtic from Cork 5-2. Sean O’Loughlin scored twice and Craig Keane, Stuart Mitchell and Mark Phelan also found the net for United. Gary Daly got both goals for the Cork side.
