The opening day of the CUFL competition proved to be a good one for WIT because they also won the First Division game against the University of Limerick on the adjoining pitch at the RSC.
This team is coached and managed by Nicky Denn and they won their opening game of the competition thanks to a headed goal from central defender Nathan Sherry.
He came forward to make contact with a left wing corner kick taken by Michael Orpen and his header from eight yards range gave the UL goalkeeper Thomas Quinn no chance.
That goal, which proved to be the winner was scored three minutes before half time.
