Two men and a woman were arrested last week in connection with a break-in at Christ Church Cathedral last month that caused an estimated €250,000 worth of damage.
Two men, aged 25 and 29, and a 22-year-old woman were arrested by gardai last Thursday and brought to Waterford Garda Station for questioning. They were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and released on Friday evening without charge. Gardai say they are now awaiting results from the technical bureau.
The ceiling of the historic Cathedral was badly damaged during the break-in, though the bulk of the damage was caused when rubble from the ceiling fell into the back of the historic Thomas Elliott organ, which dates back to 1817. The organ had undergone major restoration in 2002. The vestry was also ransacked and around €200 taken from a safe.
Name and shame
We are living in a society where the crime committed is worse than the justice put in front of them.
It’s a pity we don’t have a devil’s island we could get rid of those wannabe hoods for a couple of years.
Or how about you commit murder you hang or get shot.
You attack a child, woman or the elderly you hang em but no we as a society are better than the rubbish walking the streets and causing so much heartache we send them to a legal system that looks after there interest rather than the victim.
If shooting or hanging is out of the question there’s always flogging.
Give the system more power to deal with these jack asses instead of sending them to a resort like prison the punishment most be more severe than the crime otherwise they will do it again.
