The section of botched road repairs en route from Waterford to Tramore will be smoothed out next month.

Area Engineer Jane O’Neill informed last Tuesday night’s meeting of Tramore Town Council that the work, for which warm weather is required, would commence at the end of the current month.

She described a suggestion from Cllr Joe Conway that the job would cost a total of €250,000 as “way off the mark”, although she would have to work out the exact figure.

Lady’s Slip

Ms O’Neill reported that repair work on The Lady’s Slip in Tramore was scheduled to commence on May 18 and would take four weeks to complete.

Blue Flag concern

In response to a query from Cllr James McCartan regarding the recent failure of the pumping station at The Pier, she said the rising main which carried the sewage from The Cove pumping station to the sewage treatment plant burst. The pipe therefore could not carry the flow as normal. Repairs were carried out and the main was now in service.

Cllr McCartan said there seemed to be ongoing problems and he was concerned the resort might lose its Blue Flag. But Ms O’Neill assured him pressure-easing measures were being taken which should resolve the situation.
