On Sunday last in excellent conditions the Annual 4 Miles Waterford AC-promoted road race took place in the City.  It attracted an entry in excess of 360 and there were course records set by the two individual winners, male and female.

Alan O’Shea from Bantry was a clear-cut overall winner after leading practically from the start at Plunkett Station and at the finish at the RSC he was timed in a new record time of 18 minutes 53 seconds.

Ravis Bralitis, West Waterford AC, was second in 19.11 just in front of the third man home, Brian Maher of Kilkenny City Harriers, who was timed at 19.13.

In winning the ladies section, Kiera Durkin, Skerries was also most impressive and she again set a new record of 21.57, and in second place was Pauline Curley, Tullamore in 22.30. Another Tullamore athlete, Pauline Lambe was third in 23.38.

The event was superbly organised by Waterford AC and the club wishes to thank the Gardai, stewards, the Manager of the RSC, Management of Museum of Treasures, the sponsors Alfie Hale Sports and Adidas, and of course all who competed.
