Another four goals for Southend

Bohemians 1; Southend United 4

Last season Southend could not buy a goal for a long time in league football. This season they cannot stop scoring. Having knocked four goals against Johnville the previous Wednesday, they did the same against a ragged Bohs team on Sunday morning.

Lee Hayes had United leading 2-0 at the interval. The second goal scored by Hayes was a real beauty as he lobbed the ball to the net from 30 yards. Paddy Carey scored from a free kick and Bohemians also had the misfortune to score an OG. Bobby Keoghan netted the home side’s only goal.

Crystal made work by Johnville

Johnville 1; Waterford Crystal 2

Robbie Butler and Paul Quilty had the champions leading 2-0 in St Martin’s Park before Gavin Phelan scored for a hard working Johnville side. John O’Leary was then sent off for a second bookable offence and that limited their attacking options and Crystal held on to record their second victory of the week.

Carrick crash to Villa

Villa 1; Carrick United 0

Carrick United stuttering start to the new league campaign continued in Connors Park on Sunday when they lost to a late goal scored by Ian Cantwell. His strike five minutes from full-time means that Carrick have only one point from a possible nine to date.
