Ballinameela 1-6 Ardmore 0-6

There is no doubt that Ardmore will be kicking themselves after this game having gone into it in second place in the group, a position that would have guaranteed them an automatic quarter-final spot providing they didn’t lose to.
Those present could be forgiven if concentration levels lapsed for periods over the hour – not least because both sides took to the field in royal blue shirts with a considerable dash of white for good measure.
To avoid considerable confusion Ardmore turned their shirts inside out, which was hardly the ideal solution as the numbers on the shirts couldn’t be clearly seen.
Last time out, Ballinameela hadn’t the services of Eoghan Walsh whose absence was immense, and his inclusion here at corner-forward was a huge confidence booster to the 2009 Intermediate champions and he duly scored four of their six points – half from play and the rest via frees kicked off the ground.
Ardmore that got off to the best possible start, albeit seven minutes into the game, when Kenny Murphy – on free taking duties for the evening in the absence of Alan North – converted, but by the time the half-time whistle sounded the seasiders found themselves trailing by four points to two.
