Waterford’s injury-hit hurlers are in a race against time to be fit to face champions Tipperary in the Munster Final on July 12th.
According to Davy Fitzgerald it looks like Ken McGrath could be out of action until a would-be All-Ireland semi-final in August after undergoing knee surgery last week. His co-captain and centre-forward replacement Stephen Molumphy damaged medial knee ligaments in Sunday’s rousing replay victory over Limerick and had to be replaced at half-time. Versatile midfielder Kevin Moran was also forced off with a badly strained ankle late in the game, while hardy corner-back Noel Connors is suffering the effects of a hand injury, possibly a fracture, which saw him receive two injections at the interval.
The Déise boss admits it’s going to be an anxious wait to see who makes next month’s decider – a repeat of last year’s penultimate championship clash which Waterford won; albeit with more or less a full hand.
