Dungarvan 1-18 Ballyduff Lr 2-12
Dungarvan’s senior hurlers collected a first win in this year’s Snowcream championship on Sunday last when they had three points to spare over Group 2 cohorts Ballyduff Lower in the opening game of a double-header at Fraher Field.
The standard of hurling over the course of the hour was not the best – as was the case in all of last weekend’s games – but it did nonetheless keep those who turned up on the edges of their seats ’til the end.
Gavin Crotty put in a man-of-the-match display in the middle of the field. The young Old Boro clubman saw all what he touched turn to gold. His first-half performance was the main difference between the sides as he hit three points inside six minutes, all from play, to help Dungarvan to a 0-10 to 0-8 lead at the interval.
Dungarvan were presented with a gilt-edged chance to steal a considerable march on their opponents three minutes into the second half when Colm Curran was pulled down inside the large quadrangle and referee Pat Casey was left with no option but to outstretch his arms and award Dungarvan a penalty.
Jamie Nagle was given responsibility of taking the strike from 20 metres ahead of regular free-taker Colm Curran but he saw his effort hit the spot between the bar and the post and the ball was cleared to safety after it had gone over the heads of the three-man defensive line.
