Waterford United 2; Crumlin United 0

Waterford United failed to score against Crumlin United in the original game played in Richmond Park the previous Friday but on Tuesday of this week they did not hang about and opened the scoring after only three minutes, going on to dominate the replay and booked a place in the last eight of the competition.

Crumlin, in fairness, did try hard and created a few chances but by in large they played second fiddle to the Blues, whose manager Stephen Henderson was much happier compared to his humour in Dublin five day earlier.

“We passed the ball brilliantly tonight and we ruled the game from the opening whistle. We knew they had to play without their right full-back, who was sent off in the first game and we caused them a lot of problems on that side so we got that right.

“It is great to keep the successful run going and now we can look forward to the quarter-final draw. Of course the league is our main priority but cup runs are great also and with the EA Sports Cup final coming up next month all of the players are on a high right now – hopefully that feelgood factor will carry us through the important league games we have to play during the coming weeks.”
