Ferrybank took a giant step towards securing their status as a Premier League club on Sunday morning at The Village Grounds in Abbeylands.
They went into the game on a total of 14 points, the same amount as the other basement club, Southend United. Their facile victory over a very disappointing Johnville team has moved them on to 17 points and they have two games left to play against Bohemians and Carrick United. Southend on the other hand could only muster a scoreless draw against Tramore and they have only one game to play, a tough away match against near-neighbours St Saviours this Wednesday.
Bohemians, aother club who are fighting for their survival, drew 1-1 with Villa and have brought their total to 18 points, and another point would see them guarantee them top-flight football next season.
Ferrybank got off to a dream start by scoring after only two minutes and from then on there was only going to be one winner. Johnville never settled following that early setback and the only surprising aspect was the final score. Ferrybank, had they taken all of their chances could have won by a much bigger margin.
