Another meet, another medal: Joe Gough won the Over 55 1500 metre title at Cork IT last Sunday.

On Sunday last at the Cork IT track, several athletes from Waterford AC and West Waterford competed in the Munster Masters Championships and there were many medal winners in the various age categories.

For West Waterford the following had wins:

* Corrina Walsh 100, 200,400 and 3000 metres (Over 35)

* Jacinta Sheil, Hammer, Javelin and Shot Putt (Over 50)

* Joe Gough 1500 metres (Over 55)

* Bernie Prendergast 100 m (Over 50)

* Harry O’Brien 800 m (Over 45)

* Josie Uí Chuirrín 800m (Over 45)

* Frank O’Brien Discus (Over 45).

The women’s relay team (Over 45) also proved victorious while there were several other silver and bronze medals winners for both West Waterford and Waterford AC.

Waterford AC ladies had six wins with Deirdre Chapman in the Shot, Discus and Javelin (Over 35), Jacinta Power – Long and High Jump (Over 35), Cathy Cronin 400 m (Over 40).

Meanwhile their men had two victories Frank Quinlan the 800 metres (Over 35) and Finley Weir the 400 metres (Over 40).

All Ireland Combined Event Titles

On Saturday and Sunday last in Tullamore a small number of athletes from Waterford competed in the All-Ireland Combined Events in various age categories. Megan Kiely (Ferrybank) continued her excellent form by winning the Under-17 title.

In the Over-35 section, Tom O’Brien and Jacinta Power. two athletes from Waterford A.C. both won titles Tom O’Brien and Jacinta Power.

Celtic Juvenile International

On Saturday next August 7th the Annual Celtic Juvenile International Track and Field meeting will be in Athlone IT. Five young athletes from Waterford are on the Irish selection.

West Waterford supply athletes in three of the individual events: Zoe Scanlon (Under-18 Shot Putt and Discus) and Lisa Houlihan in the Pole Vault in the same age group.

Ferrybank have athletes in two individual events: Megan Kiely (Under-18 300 metres hurdles) and Ciara Giles Doran (Under-16 75 metres hurdles). Both are also on relay teams (Megan Under-18) and Ciara (Under-16 mixed).
