frostyFormer Waterford United defender John Frost has signed for First Division club Limerick FC. The Tramore native (but born in Limerick) spent seven seasons with the Blues, several of them as captain from his left full-back position.
He helped Waterford win promotion in 2003 and also played in the 2004 FAI Cup final defeat against Longford Town. ‘Frosty’ was hugely popular at the RSC and the man who was capped at underage level for the Republic of Ireland thought long and hard before he accepted an offer from St Patrick’s Athletic in the off-season of 2005.
He quickly became a cult figure with the Inchicore-based club, and was unlucky to lose yet another FAI Cup final with the Super Saints when they were defeated in a thrilling decider against Derry City in 2008 at Landsdowne Road, the day the wind almost blew the roof off the stand at the old venue.
