A hard-working Southend side lost their fifth game on the trot on Sunday last and rock bottom of the League after an alarming run of results.

Johnville on the other hand have been picking up points on a regular basis in recent weeks and they are now in third position, tucked in behind Carrick United and Villa.

Southend began brightly enough with Patrick Carey and Lee Russell going close, but it was Johnville who scored what proved to be the only goal of the game on 34 minutes.

Paul Gahan played the perfect pass in behind the Southend defence for Valdo Bulvas and the big striker took the ball around the home goalkeeper Sean Walsh before squeezing a right-footed shot into the bottom of the net to give the visitors the lead.

Johnvlle almost made it 2-0 just before half-time but James Starmer was just off-target from 25 yards. Patrick Carey struck the visitors crossbar four minutes into the second period as the home side went in search of the equaliser.
