In Moscow on Saturday last there was yet another fine performance by Kate Veale (pictured) from West Waterford AC. Competing in the 5000 metres Walk at the European Youth Olympic Trials she finished 4th in a personal best time of 23mins 01.03 seconds and so qualified for the World Youth Olympic Championships in Singapore in August as the first eight went through. The race was won by a Russian athlete Leomkeva in 22.24.95, again in a PB. Galchenko, Ukraine was second in 22.25.01 with the Greek Theodoropoulou third in 22.33.38 (also a PB). A total of 21 athletes from all over Europe competed so Kate was there well up with the best.
